The Primary Color Series 1988-1991

In the Primary Color Series of compositions, starting with CRGB, the color range is limited to variations of the RGB primaries in order to be able to concentrate on thematic developments regarding questions such as what kind of planar articulation will best sustain harmonic color changes in time, how to provide thematic continuity of change without relying on the rules of perspective, and how to disengage the temporal dimension of color from physical motion.

Composition in Red Green and Blue (CRGB) 1988

COMPOSITION IN RED AND GREEN (CRG) 1989-1990

The theme in CRG is not a free-form motive, but shows a planar mapping of a higher-order algebraic curve. The action consists of color sequencing and color modulation within a range of red and green tonalities.

COMPOSITION IN BLUE AND GREEN (CBG) 1990-1991

The four CBG plates show an experiment in which free-form motives are juxtaposed to fractal compositions. The piece was intended primarily as a study of the rhythmic interplay between the spatial and temporal characteristic of the two geometries, but was not actually animated.
