Stochastica: Crossmodulation

WRO2000@Kultura
Graphics-Music Installation with
Igor Czerniawski
Nov 20 - Dec 10, 2000 at
Mathematic Tower of Wroclaw University

The installation, a collaboration with Igor Czerniawski, consisted of 106 A2(42x59cm) and C(43x56cm) size prints placed on a table and two sets of audio system playing different music simultaneously.

The artistic intension was to project the environment we live in today. In the flood of information, how we can receive what we need and reject others is one of the most important subject. Whether one is aware or unaware, our perception is affected by modulation caused by unwanted signals. In this installation, the visual input of the series of slightly different images, and the aural input of randomly selected loudest music, can easily get the audience confused by superimposition of modulations, just like the desensitized communication receiver. To discriminate what we really want in adjacent inputs, we must wear the ability to adjust the selectivity to the optimum range in ahead of our reception or crossmodulated information spoils our natural judgment.
