Mike KING

Early Graphics

From 1988 to 1991 King worked with 8-bit frame-store graphics hardware, writing a series of software programmes for 2D and 3D imagery. These programmes included ICAS (an Integrated Computer Art System), Polypaint (an 8-bit broadcast paint system used by his students for many years), Smart3D (a 3D programme commissioned for St. Martin's School of Art), and Sculptor, an early version of Raysculpt. Details on these systems can be found in King's Technical Writings. These images, generally created at 768 x 576 pixels resolution, used no commercial software, but sometimes involved the writing of short one-off pieces of code to perform certain tasks.
